OBi110 VOIP device Brief Review

So the ooma worked for only about 3 days, then no matter how I tweak it, the voice quality suffered, particularly the upload speed which results people who received my calls can’t hear me clearly. The voice became garbled. Therefore I have to choose my next device – OBi110 Voice Service Bridge and VoIP Telephone Adapter. Apparently, this device works well in my setup. Well, except for some reason, the phone service always disconnect at around 30min on first call. The subsequent call never has this problem.

Most importantly, the voice quality is much better for the upload speed, although there’s still some occasional package delay/dropout as reported by people who got my call. The initial setup of the OBi110 is pretty easy, provided that your google voice account is already setup. Then all you have to do is to sign up account on OBitalk.com and put in google credentials. You can directly access the adapter using the IP address unlike ooma. The setup options however are definitely NOT for newbies. The interface also is a bit laggy. The call history doesn’t seem to be very accurate. But for US users you don’t have to do any changes.

The device supports caller ID, but lacks E911. For E911, you can subscribe to callcentric and pay the tax using the SP2. But some settings are required inside the device.

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with this device for now. Hope google won’t charge for a lot for the coming year.
